My patient had dementia
But never forgot God;
When we held hands to pray,
Our hands quietly and gently electrocuted one another.
When we had finished our prayer,
My patient responded in deep compose, eyes shut, “I felt it.”
Not knowing what had just happened, I looked at my patient and responded in amazement, “God is amazing.”
Thank you, God, for giving my patient and myself that incredible gift!
As we stand here before You
We thank You for every blessing that You bestow
Upon us and our loved ones each and every day.
With humble grace in our hearts
We ask that You continue to bestow these beautiful blessings upon us,
And we ask that You strengthen us and our beloved <name>
For <name> is struggling with the challenges that are meeting him/her these days.
For listening to our prayer,
And knowing how best to answer us,
We thank You.
And together we say:
Today as I visited my patients
And their families,
I prayed amid
Tears of healing,
Tears of loss, and
Tears of hope.
As they made their way
Down the faces
Of us all.
For every tear,
For it is these tears
That strengthen us
And transform us
Into the souls
You intend us to be.
